strong smell of coal tar

Did a good job when I bathed my Bouvier, she didn't have half as many knots as usual, but I have to say it does smell very very strongly of coal tar and I cannot keep it indoors because of the smell, but maybe with time it will disappear.

very effective in pulling out hair

The only problem I have is that I don't know whether it is pulling out only loose hair, or hair which otherwise should remain?
It is quite heavy to keep handy in ones pocket for use whilst out on walks,
